The Shoe That Never Lets You Down

There's a reason the Brooks Ghost has been one of the best-selling running shoes in the country for nearly two decades. It isn't flashy. It doesn't chase trends. It just shows up, every single run, and delivers exactly what it promises: a comfortable, balanced, reliable ride that works for almost everyone who laces it up.

The Ghost 18 is the latest chapter in that story, and true to form, Brooks didn't fix what wasn't broken. After meaningful changes in the Ghost 17, this year's focus is on letting runners settle in rather than throwing them another curve. The midsole formula stays intact. The updates are precision refinements to the upper and fit, the kind of quiet improvements you feel immediately and then stop thinking about, because the shoe just gets out of your way.

The Technology

DNA LOFT v3 — Cushioning That Earns Its Mileage

The Ghost 18 continues with Brooks' nitrogen-infused DNA LOFT v3 foam, lighter and more responsive than earlier versions of DNA LOFT, with a foam that compresses on landing and bounces back quicker. The result is cushioning that reads as soft without going mushy, protective enough for long slow miles, firm enough to not punish you when you want to move faster.

The heel-to-toe drop remains at 10mm, a change introduced in the Ghost 17 that brought the shoe in line with modern daily trainer geometry. The stack sits at a moderate 36mm in the heel, meaningfully cushioned without the disconnected, floaty feel of a max-stack shoe. You're protected, but you still know you're running.

This is the sweet spot the Ghost has always lived in: not a recovery shoe, not a racer, the dependable middle ground that works across easy efforts, long runs, and occasional tempo days alike.

Triple Jacquard Air Mesh Upper — Breathability, Finally Upgraded

The Ghost 18 moves to a lighter-yarn triple jacquard air mesh, designed to be more breathable, a welcome upgrade for longer runs and summer miles. The upper wraps the foot securely without feeling locked down, and the fit is adaptive enough to feel natural rather than engineered.

Brooks also refined the tongue to be more comfortable and better anchored in place — a small fix with a noticeable daily payoff. No more mid-run tongue drift. The flat-knit construction is soft and flexible, reducing pressure across the top of the foot.

OrthoLite X-60 Sockliner — Step-In Feel You Notice Immediately

A new OrthoLite X-60 sockliner adds an extra layer of plush comfort underfoot, delivering a noticeably better step-in feel from the moment you put the shoe on. It's a small upgrade in specification, but it's the kind of thing that makes you reach for these shoes on easy mornings when your legs already have opinions.

RoadTack Rubber Outsole — Quiet Durability

The RoadTack rubber outsole provides reliable traction on road surfaces with heel reflectivity for low-light visibility. Flex grooves in the outsole encourage a natural, fluid stride without requiring you to think about it. Expect 300–500 miles of durable use before the cushioning begins to pack out, on par with or slightly above the daily trainer average.
